It has been an exceptional privilege to represent the people, the families and the organisations in the electorate of Mitchell and of Western Sydney.
The people of Mitchell and Western Sydney have been so open and generous in their relationship with me. It has been a joy and an incentive to represent them to the best of my ability for such an extended period in the Federal Parliament. Their trust in me has been an honour for which I am deeply grateful and for which I thank them.
We have experienced our ups and downs over the 33 years that I have been the Member for Mitchell and I have received some very direct advice from constituents as well as their willingness to forgive my shortcomings and mistakes.
Only in Australia would it have been possible for a farm boy with a young family to have been given the privilege of representing the most magnificent area of Australia, populated by people of great heart and very clear values.
There is nothing more important for every Australian, if they want to be certain of building on our current achievements, than to ensure the re-election of a Howard government.
I wish to thank my friends and supporters, the Liberal Party for giving me the opportunity, my parliamentary colleagues, my wonderful staff, and especially my dear wife Judy, our three sons and our families for their love, patience and strong unflagging support.
