Opportunities are becoming available for professionals interested in the $1.9 billion mental health programme launched by the Minister for Health and Ageing the Hon Tony Abbott.

Funds have gone to the Australian General Practice Network and the College of Psychiatrists to improve access to mental care information. The training will be delivered through Divisions of General Practice. Training teams will include both GPs and psychologists.

38 scholarships worth $10,000 a year each are available for qualified nurses who have an interest in mental health. Information can be gained from www.rcna.org.au/pages/scholarships.php or by calling 1800 770 562.

One-off grants of up to $40,000 are available for smaller organisations to enhance their capacity.
