Federal member for Mitchell, the Hon Alan Cadman MP today celebrated with Kenthurst Public School the completion of a play equipment upgrade. Kenthurst Public School received $70,338 under the Investing in Our Schools Programme. This funding has allowed for the purchase and installation of new playground equipment and rubber soft fall. The new equipment will encourage gross motor activity and increase fitness for the students from the school and local community. Kenthurst Public School has also received advice that they have been successful in Round Three of the Programme. A further $79,662 has been approved for the construction of a specialised learning area. The $1 billion Investing in Our Schools Programme was announced by the Prime Minister during the 2004 federal election campaign and in February 2007, was increased by $181 million. The Programme will now provide a massive $1.2 billion in total, $827 million of which will help state government schools fund small scale infrastructure projects identified and prioritised by school communities. A total of $354 million will be provided for non-government schools over the life of the Programme. ôSmall-scale projects which have been identified as a priority by school communities are delivered under this programme. The Australian Government is providing local communities with a voice to determine what they think is important for their schools. Funding under the Programme is in addition to the nearly $1.7 billion provided by the Australian Government to support government school capital works projects undertaken by State and Territory Governments over the 2005-2008 quadrennium.
